About

Ashford Sinfonia started life as a Beginners’ and Returners’ orchestra around 1990. Initially it was part of Kent Music Schools, and the entry level was at about Grade 3. The music played is mainly classical and popular (movie themes, TV themes etc.) and is selected by the conductor and members of the orchestra.

Eleven years ago the orchestra became independent, run by its members. Subscriptions of £40 a term make it financially  self supporting. Since then the Sinfonia has supported Ashford’s Towers School in a presentation of film and show music, joined with Hythe Salvation Army Band and FHODs in four Christmas Carol spectaculars, Ashford Community Choir with two further Christmas concerts and produced its own concerts, usually three times a year.

We play under the direction and baton of Timothy Bushnell, a talented musician who sets much of the music we play. As ever, the orchestra welcomes new members, and prides itself on being supportive of newcomers and less confident players. We normally meet on Monday evenings in term time at The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Church Road, Willesborough, Ashford – just come along at 7.15pm ready for a u.30 start.

I have just moved to Kennington and am looking for an orchestra to join. Do you have a vacancy for a cellist by any chance? My other orchestra in Canary Wharf is now too far away.
