This Monday evening saw us combining with Ashford Community Choir to give a Concert at Revelation St. Mary’s, Ashford in support of the Woodchurch Riding Group. The sense of excitement was evident from the moment we started setting up: we had had only one rehearsal with the choir, which in itself was great fun, and we had never heard them sing their choral pieces.
The evening started with the choir singing three songs, and we then launched into a selection from the Nutcracker Suite, and the half finished with choir and orchestra combining for “Somewhere In My Memory” from the John Williams score of “Home Alone”. The second half saw more choral pieces, and then a succession of carols, including a medley written by our own Gill Booker – who also adapted several of the other pieces – sung by the choir and accompanied by the orchestra.
The very capable leadership of both Karen Hill and Gill Booker kept both amateur ensembles in the right places, the songs were accompanied by Wendy Heaton on the piano, and a substantial audience of supporters seems to have thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Hopefully this will be the first of many joint efforts between these two groups. And so Christmas begins…
Footnote: the evening raised £994 for the charity!
