Christmas Celebration

This Monday evening saw us combining with Ashford Community Choir to give a Concert at Revelation St. Mary’s, Ashford in support of the Woodchurch Riding Group. The sense of excitement was evident from the moment we started setting up: we had had only one rehearsal with the choir, which in itself was great fun, and we had never heard them sing their choral pieces.

The evening started with the choir singing three songs, and we then launched into a selection from the Nutcracker Suite, and the half finished with choir and orchestra combining for “Somewhere In My Memory” from the John Williams score of “Home Alone”. The second half saw more choral pieces, and then a succession of carols, including a medley written by our own Gill Booker – who also adapted several of the other pieces – sung by the choir and accompanied by the orchestra.

The very capable leadership of both Karen Hill and Gill Booker kept both amateur ensembles in the right places, the songs were accompanied by Wendy Heaton on the piano, and a substantial audience of supporters seems to have thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Hopefully this will be the first of many joint efforts between these two groups. And so Christmas begins…

Footnote: the evening raised £994 for the charity!

Plans for the rest of term!

We are getting ever closer to Christmas, and the various rehearsals and concerts. On Tuesday 27th November we are having a rehearsal at Norton Knatchbull School TN24 0QJ which is Hythe Road, Ashford. The school’s gates will be open, and you can park in the school. We will be rehearsing with the choir from 1900 to 2030, and on our own for the next half hour. As a consequence we will NOT be rehearsing on Monday 26th November.

The Concert is at Revelation St Mary’s, Ashford, parking at Vicarage Lane car park, free from 1830. Further info about start time to follow, as there has been a little confusion!

Further information about the Towers Theatre Concert also to follow.

Christmas Concerts

This year we will be taking part in two Christmas concerts – the first being our by now traditional performance with Hythe Salvation Army Band and Community Choir. Sadly, the tickets for this concert were released very early this year, and are now fully taken up. The concert is on 9th December, and we will be reverting to our 2 p.m. rehearsal, as we will not have met with Wes again until that afternoon.

The second concert will be the following day, Monday 10th December, in conjunction with Ashford Community Choir, and will take place in St Mary’s church in Ashford town centre. The concert will start at 7.30 p.m., and we will meet a little before that to warm up – probably 7.00 p.m.

Change of dates and times

As a result of an unfortunate clash of events, not least the World Cup Final, Wimbledon Final and the chairman’s failure to check the booking of the venue, we have had to change the dates of the Summer Concert and the AGM.

The Concert will now be held on Monday 16th July at 7.30 p.m., meeting beforehand at 7.00 p.m. in the usual venue of Willesborough church. The Social evening and AGM will be at Yew Tree House, Ashford Road, Charing TN27 0EE meeting at 6.30 on Tuesday 17th July.

Many apologies to those inconvenienced by these changes.
